Surgery this morning

Besides throwing up anything I gave him, Everything else is looking better – no more infection at amputation site, numbers for kidneys going in the right direction.

Achilles is looking bright.

We just have to get food into him and keep it down.

This morning Dr. will insert a feeding tube. Because Achilles is so big, he won’t be able to completely bypass the stomach and get into the intestine. Hoping getting the food into the stomach will be enough. Keeping paws crossed. I am nervous about him being sedated, but I know Dr wouldn’t do it if he didn’t think Achilles could handle it. He’s been up front about the risks all along. I trust him.

I realized last night that I keep putting cool tripawds items into a shopping cart, but not completing the purchase. It’s because I am afraid I’ll have tripawds things, but no tripawd. I am taking the leap of faith this morning and buying a few things and believing that Achilles is going to make it and I will be able to wear out the items and even buy some more!

  1. Keep believing Janet! He sounds like he’s improving…slowly but getting there. If you can just get over this hump of not eating! His numbers are improving on kidneys…YES!

I know what you mean about buying stuff…when I first found Tripawds and set up a blog, I was fearful Maggie wouldn’t be around long….

Go Achilles! Will be thinking pawsitive thoughts today for him!

  2. Janet,

We will be thinking of Achilles today and praying for a speedy turn around. It seems each dog is so different in their recovery. Sammy had a very bumpy road to start with too.
It seems many dogs do really well, jump right up and keep on trucking. I was upset and anxious when my boy wasn’t responding as well as so many others I read about. I just love him and wanted so much for him to be okay. I know you feel the same way about Achilles. Keep the positive outlook going around him and we will too. Many hugs to you and Achilles and please let us know as soon as you can how he is doing.

  3. Janet and Achilles,

It can be a tough recovery sometimes, but it sounds like he is headed in the right direction. Hopefully, the feeding tube will help. You just have to keep the faith and trust in your doctor. Your happy thoughts will help Achilles. We will be thinking of you and Achilles today.

  6. We are crossing our fingers and paws for Achilles too. The numbers are going the right way!!! That’s great. Keep on believing. The food tube should help a lot.

And as Achilles feels better, I am sure he will feel more like eating.

Hang in there. We are all waiting for good news on Achilles’ recovery.

  9. The surgery went fine. Feeding tube is in.
Achilles is not very energetic – no energy due to virtually no food for 4 days, depressed, tired from the surgery….. any or all these reasons.
Dr gave him some food- babyfood, yogurt & kaopectate. He threw up some, then had a dose of centrine and kept food down. So this is good.
Hoping food will increase his strength.
Dr will check him again later tonight. He’ll be taking the ulcer meds too, so hopefully get his belly back in order. (then on to helping the kidneys…. )
Thank you everybody for prayers, pawsitive energy, support and encouragement. You are all PAWESOME!!!!
    big hugs,
    love
    Janet and Achilles

  10. Janet,

That’s great that the surgery was a success and that Achilles at least kept some food down with the aid of the centrine. Hopefully once he is able to keep food down he can regain his strength and get back on the road to recovery.

Try to get some rest. I know you must be exhausted. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

  11. So glad the surgery went well. I’m sure he is just feeling run down from not having any food in his belly. He needs rest, food and love (not necessarily in that order). Keep us posted on how he is doing.

    Keeping all paws crossed,
    Ginger
