Have been force feeding Achilles – – Also forcing pedialite.
He’s drinking very little on his own and no appetite whatsoever.
Could be anything – withdrawal from the meds he was on for so long, kidneys failing, just giving up… who knows?
Back to the vet –
kidneys are getting worse.
Flushing again today….
So sorry to hear this. 🙁 Best wishes for Achilles, we hope he’s feeling better soon. Thanks for the update, please keep us posted.
Poor Achilles. We too hope he’s feeling better soon.
Oh man…I feel so badly for you and Achilles!!! Hugs to you and hoping things turn around realllllly soon!
Tracy, Maggie’s Mom
This brings tears to my eyes…
My heart hurts with yours as you try to help Achilles while he is struggling. I hope things go well at the Vet.
Your treasure Achilles is beautiful.

Hang in there. We are all hoping to hear better news on Achilles. Paws crossed for you. Let us know what the vet says. I know how terrible it feels when your guy will not eat or drink. Keep tri-ing.

Dad does not get to the blogs too often, but when he reads that one of our warriors is not eating, we just have to rally. During that nasty chemotherapy I totally lost all appetite. However, Dad and Mom did discover that I would drink Vanilla flavored Soy Milk. Not that light kind but rather the full calorie version. He also augmented that with some generic Ensure. This helped to give his fingers a rest, but he did have to resort to stuffing as well. He actually got rather good at it. He had lots of other ways including Cherrios. Yes, I often had cereal for breakfast (Cherrios and Soy Milk.)
Again I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, advice, kindness and well-wishes here. With support like this we can do anything!!!
Achilles had his kidneys flushed today. He is back home. The “count” (I am not sure what these numbers mean) is 13 – where 2 is normal. Last Friday when we flushed it was 7. There is still infection in the amputation that could be causing the kidney trouble, so still on strong antibiotics.
Dr. prescribed Royal Canin Renal LF canned food. That goes pretty easily into the syringe for feeding.
(It’s really like having a baby again! I have towels stacked up like I used to stack receiving blankets.)
It’s what we do for our furkids.
I will try the vanilla soy and ensure, too.
On a Pawsitive note, even with the poor kidney news, Achilles really looks better than he has in a couple weeks! His eyes are brighter. He looks around responding to sounds – voices, car keys, the other dogs – he even barked a few times today!
Our love to all of you!!
Janet & Achilles
Yay. Even though he’s having a hard time, it sounds like Achilles is doing better. I hear the infection happens sometimes with amputation, but hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick. We are keeping our paws crossed for all of you.
Sending you sloppy kisses and hugs,
Ginger and her pack
So happy to hear that Achilles is looking good and is responding to sounds! He has been on my heart and in my thoughts since I read your posting yesterday.
Give him a big hug for us! We are cheering him on…!!

Achilles, we know that you can pull through this and get back to your bouncy self. All of us are thinking of you and sending our pawsitivity for better times ahead.
I’m so sorry you have gone through so much, it’s not what usually happens after surgery. But despite the raw deal you got, we know you have the loving family support, a great vet, and all the spunk and charm it takes to recover beautifully.
Feel better my friend, we need you around here OK?
